Yankees: Ranking The Top 5 Free Agent Shortstops

#3- Marcus Semien

Semien hits free agency for the second straight year, after signing a one year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays last offseason. He starred in an already stacked Blue Jays offense in 2021, with MVP caliber numbers.

Semien batted .265, hit 45 home runs, 102 RBI’s, and had an OPS of .873. He also had 132 wRC+ and was ranked 4th in baseball with a WAR of 6.6 according to FanGraphs. Semien brings a ton of pop to the plate as he did crush 45 long balls. He set the MLB record for the most amount of home runs by a primary Second Baseman.

The former Oakland A and Toronto Blue Jay provides a ton of defensive talent as well. Semien had 11 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) , which is exceptional. That ranked Semien third in DRS in Major League Baseball. He also won a Gold Glove in 2021.

How does Semien fit in with the Yankees you ask? I think he’d fit in amazing. His power at the dish is impeccable for a second baseman. Semien is technically a second baseman but he can also play third and short, so he can bring versatility to the Yankees infield.

The Yankees struggled offensivley and defensivley in 2021 and adding Marcus Semien to their infield can make a massive difference. Semien is a proven player and if the Yankees cannot land one of the next two candidates on this list I would have no problem bringing in Semien.
