The Yankees Need to get on a Roll

The New York Yankees just swept the Miami Marlins this weekend, and now they must get on a roll before it’s too late.

The New York Yankees made some big acquisitions this past week ahead of the trade deadline, picking up both Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo in deals with the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs. Now, in the midst of a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles, it’s time for the Bombers to get hot for once and for all.

Yankees Sweep in South Beach

The Yanks visited Miami this weekend and picked up a three-game sweep over the Marlins. In the series, Rizzo looked dominant, driving in a run in each game, including two homers. On the pitching side of things, both Jameson Taillon and Jordan Montgomery put up solid performances, getting through five strong innings. The bullpen was impressive, too, including strong outings from Clay Holmes, Aroldis Chapman, Chad Green, Jonathan Loaisiga, and Zack Britton.

Obviously, the Marlins aren’t a huge threat based on their 44-61 record. However, a sweep on the road is always a good sign, and hopefully, that means better things going forward.

Time to Get Hot

While there are still two months left in the season, time is starting to run out. While a playoff spot is definitely still in reach, you don’t want to far too fall behind ahead of September and leave yourself with little to no room to get back in the picture.

Thankfully, the Bombers seem to be aware of this, considering who they added at the deadline and the moves they made to get to the postseason now. Whether or not they actually do make it to the playoffs remains to be seen, but you gotta give credit for trying.

Looking Ahead

Following their three-game set with the O’s, the Yankees will then host the Seattle Mariners for four. As of Monday, the Yankees sit 7.0 games out of first place in the division and 2.5 games out of the second Wildcard slot. With the Orioles in town, it’s fair to want at least a series win, if not more. As for the Mariners, the Yankees did damage against them in Seattle earlier this season, so you’d hope that that can carry over into the Weekend.

As I said, the Yankees do sit within reach of a playoff berth, and no one knows whether or not the moves they made will actually result in one. Having said that, if there was ever a time to get hot, this would be it, knowing the new life that’s recently been added to the squad and the upcoming schedule.
