2016 vs. Houston Astros

The Yankees opened the 2016 season with a 5-3 loss to the Houston Astros in a rematch of the 2015 AL Wild Card Game at Yankee Stadium.

A day later, the Yankees bounced back in a big way scoring 16 runs headlined by home runs from Starlin Castro, Mark Teixeira and Beltran.
Meanwhile, after Michael Pineda surrendered six runs, Ivan Nova came in and closed the game out with four scoreless relief innings.

The Yankees went on to win the series with an 8-5 win the following day to clinch their first opening series since 2011.
