Yankees: Potential Trade Package For Luis Castillo

The Yankees have finally woken up from their slumber and there is a move for Luis Castillo to be made, but what will it take?

The Yankees finally made some moves this offseason as they signed D.J. to a Six-Year deal as well as signing Corey Kluber to a one year deal. The starting rotation still needs another piece or two as Severino won’t be back till the summer. Coming off of TJ who knows if he will be the same till 2021, and the Yankees need another solid pitcher. Luis Castillo is on the trading block and the Yankees need to do everything they can to get him. Here is what the package should look like.

Clint Frazier:

Clint Frazier should be the main piece in this deal as he is an MLB ready player that has the potential to be great. Frazier was finally able to show what he is capable of doing last year when he got playing time. Frazier became a vital piece to the injured Yankees lineup and was a starter when everyone got back. In 2020 Frazier slashed .267/.394/.511 with 35 hits, six doubles, eight home runs, and 26 RBIs. Going into the year the only thing holding Frazier back was his defense and that improved drastically as he ended up finishing as a finalist for Gold Glove in right field. As much as it would hurt to part ways with Frazier, it must be done to get a star pitcher like Castillo.

Miguel Andujar:

Now one might say that no one would want Andujar who hasn’t been able to return to his 2018 form, but the fact is that he hasn’t had the at-bats to show that. There is no questioning the talent he has with the bat as he can be a force at the plate for any team if given enough at-bats. The Reds are in the market for more power hitters that are young as their failed buy-in last year didn’t work. With the DH potentially returning to the NL, Andujar would be a perfect fit for the Reds as they are looking for a hitter just like him.

Clarke Schmidt:

Clarke Schmidt has the best potential out of all of the pitchers in the Yankees farm and would be the pitching prospect that the Yankees would have to give up in order to get Castillo. While Deivi is the more MLB ready pitcher, Schmidt is the type of pitcher the Reds are looking for in return as a guy to lead their rotation in the future. Clarke struggled a bit with the Yankees in 2020, but he hadn’t pitched above AA in his career so that was expected. Overall, Clarke sadly would be the final piece in the trade but it would all be worth it getting an Ace to pitch behind Cole.
