What If The Yankees Don’t Re-Sign DJ LeMahieu?

Tommy La Stella

We’re gonna stay in the AL West for our next potential replacement and spotlight breakout second baseman Tommy La Stella of the Oakland Athletics. La Stella was traded from the Angels to the A’s at the trade deadline, and many would agree he’s been fairly productive with the bat since his breakout in 2019 with the Halos.

Since 2019, La Stella has a .285 batting average with a .355 on-base percentage across 120 games. He also has 20 homers to his credit in those games, while also carrying a wOBA of .350 and a 123 wRC+.

Another plus about La Stella is his ability to play all over the infield with the exception of shortstop. This year, La Stella has played 25 games at second base, 10 games at first base, and four games at third base. Lastly, La Stella is a lefty bat, which is always intriguing when talking about the Yankees and their right-field short porch. Combine that with the fact that the Yankees have a very righty-heavy lineup already, and I think you have a good fit.
