The Yankees leaned on Mike Ford towards the end of the season last year to fill in for Voit. Ford was another surprising player that helped keep the Yankees alive when they were struggling. In 2019, Ford slashed .259/.350/.559 with 37 hits, seven doubles, 12 home runs, and 25 RBIs. Ford gave the Yankees what they lacked and that was a lefty power bat, and going into 2020 the Yankees hoped that he would fill the spot that was left vacant by Didi. Ford has been unable to recapture the spark he had last year and in 2020 he is slashing .137/.220/.274 with 10 hits, four doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBIs. Ford’s at-bats are terrible this year and with Luke Voit playing to his potential again, Ford is now a backup and not a platoon player.
