With injustice ravaging the USA, many professional athletes have chosen to kneel during the national anthem and it possible the Yankees will do the same.
Do you know what makes the United States so special? We have the ability to express ourselves in any way we would like to. No matter what your beliefs are, you have the right to state your points and stand up (or kneel) for what you believe in. These are freedoms our country was built upon. Opening Day is upon us, so that leaves many fans wondering if any of the Yankees will be kneeling during the national anthem this year, and the answer is that there will likely some who choose to do so.
Rabid injustice is currently facing our nation, so, many professional athletes have decided to take a kneel out of respect during the national anthem. There is nothing wrong with this. People have the ability to express themselves however they would like, you don’t have to agree with them, but you should respect whatever decisions they make.
“That’s the beauty of America, is freedom of speech,” Judge said to the New York Post. “The freedom to express yourself. We’ve got a special platform being athletes. And being able to speak our mind and speak [to] what’s going on in this world. And some people express it online. Some people express it with words. Some people kneel, do what they need to do.”
He also said, “I think whatever message that we try to give out here is, we want to express unity and that we’re all in this together. I think that’s the biggest message that we’re going to try to get across from here. We’re all in this together. Try to have those uncomfortable conversations that we need to have. Bring up those uncomfortable talking points. But no matter what happens, we’re in this together.”
Judge mentioned that the team will be meeting before Opening Day to discuss what they plan on doing during the anthem. Also, Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Manager Aaron Boone have stated that they support any players or coaches who decide to kneel.
Regardless of whether or not any Yankees are kneeling, this should not make any difference to your life. For all of the fans saying “If I see any of the Yankees kneeling, I’m never watching them again”, good, you don’t deserve to be apart of the best fanbase in the world anyway. If you aren’t respectful of the issues these players are standing up for, then you don’t even deserve to watch them play.
