Projecting The Yankees 2020 Opening Day Roster

The New York Yankees will finally return to action this month and these 30 players will likely be there for the season opener.

Baseball is nearly back. The New York Yankees will open the 2020 season July 23 reportedly against the defending world champion Washington Nationals.

When the Yankees kick off the season, 30 players from their 60-man player pool will be on the active roster.

Here’s a look at which half of the Yankees player pool will likely be on the squad come opening day.

Catchers (3)

Gary Sanchez

Kyle Higashioka

Chris Iannetta

With an expanded roster for the 2020 campaign, the Yankees could benefit by bringing an extra catcher on board.

Long-time reliable backup Austin Romine signed with the Tigers leaving the Yankees with a streaky Kyle Higashioka and players on minor league deals as backup catching options.

Thus, it wouldn’t be a surprise if in addition to Gary Sanchez and Higashioka, if the Yankees opted to bring up veteran Chris Iannetta incase Higashioka struggles in his new role as the primary backup.
