Damaso Marte

Damaso Marte. He was Joe Girardi’s MVP of the World Series. In the ALDS and ALCS, Marte would not allow a single run. He was the Yankee’s lefty specialist and once the Yankees moved on to the World Series, he needed to step up big time. The Phillies had one of the best lefty-hitting teams in baseball. Players such as Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, and Matt Stairs.

The Yankees needed to find a way to silence those lefty bats as early on Utley was owning the Yankees. In Game One, Marte would be called upon in the 8th to face Utley. He struck him out and the Yankees found their secret weapon. In Game Three with the series tied at one, Marte was called on again. This time to get Ryan Howard out which he did.

Game Four he was called on to get one guy out which he did. Marte’s biggest moment came in Game Six, when he was called on to face Utley with two runners on and two outs. He would strike out Utley on three pitches. Marte would then get one more out in the 8th as he would be taken out for Mo. We all know how this ends. To the second baseman Cano, The Yankees are back on top.
