When people look at the Yankees middle infield prospects, the names that often come up are Anthony Volpe or Oswald Peraza. The one that should be talked about more is Josh Smith.

The Yankees drafted Smith in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of LSU. He slashed .346/.433/.533 for the Tigers in his final college season and then slashed .324/.480/.477 with three home runs in rookie ball in Staten Island. He is a guy who could likely play any infield position and one that will hit for a mix of average and power. Smith may be flying under the radar now, but don’t be surprised to see him as an everyday player for the Yankees in the future.
