Then rookie Aaron Judge put on a show for the ages during the 2017 home run derby in pitcher-friendly Marlins Park in Miami.
The Yankees outfielder had his back was pushed against the wall in round one when Marlins slugger Justin Bour slugged 22 home runs, but Judge found a way to outslug the hometown hero as he hit 23 home runs to advance to the semifinals.
There, he knocked off Dodgers star Cody Bellinger 13-12 to advance to the finals against Twins third basemen, Miguel Sano. Judge closed out the victory with an 11-10 victory to join Tino Martinez (1997), Jason Giambi (2002), and Robinson Cano (2011) as the only Yankees to win the home run derby.
Not only did Judge win the derby, but he tore the cover off the ball. His longest home run traveled 491 feet, while his hardest-hit homer left the bat at 113 miles per hour.
