New York Yankees: Predicting Eventual 2020 Opening Day Roster

The 2020 season will eventually come for the New York Yankees, so, who will be on the Opening Day roster when the time comes?

During these hard times, we won’t know when Opening Day will begin for the New York Yankees. When the coronavirus began, sports leagues like the NBA, NHL, MLS and many others worldwide have either canceled or delayed their seasons.

When many other sports leagues have canceled/delayed their seasons, MLB was still in Spring Training and have yet to make their decision on the crisis. Rob Manfred took action and suspended all Spring Training games and it was reported that the season would start on April 9th.

That is not the case anymore because now with the coronavirus getting out of hand in all 50 states, the 2020 MLB may not start till end of June early July. If the season were to begin on July 1st, the Yankees would start off the season with a one game set against the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore.

If there was no coronavirus and the season was to start in a week, not only would the Yankees have an injured lineup but also an injured rotation. So now that the season is delayed even longer than the estimated two weeks, the Yankees will finally have their pieces in line for the shortened season. They will have guys like Judge, Stanton, Hicks, Paxton and possibly German.

Here’s how the Yankees lineup and rotation would look like if it were to start at the end of June/early July:

Lineup: DJ LeMahieu (2B), Aaron Hicks (CF), Aaron Judge (RF), Gleyber Torres (SS), Giancarlo Stanton (LF), Gary Sanchez (C), Miguel Andujar (DH), Luke Voit (1B) and Gio Urshela (3B). Depending on how the roster looks by then, despite his injuries I can definitely see Giancarlo Stanton start off in the outfield and Brett Gardner coming off the bench.

Rotation: 1. Gerrit Cole 2. Masahiro Tanaka 3. James Paxton 4. Domingo German 5. Jordan Montgomery. With not having Luis Severino and not knowing the suspension scenario with German, as of right now I can definitely see this being the Yankees rotation come Opening Day in the summer time.

With everybody missing sports on a daily basis, as of right now all we can do is predict things  left and right and also keep good hygiene. Baseball starting late means every game counts and it most definitely is going to be a foot race till the finish line.
