As the 2020s are set to begin, the Yankees have some seriously high expectations to exceed. So, here are the predictions for the new decade.
It does not matter how good or bad a team is, they always have a plan for the present and future. Some teams play in the present and some play for the future. The Yankees have been a combination of both throughout the previous decade, which had made fans confused and discouraged sometimes.
However, the Bombers seem to be lined up perfectly for a successful decade. The team has the combination of youth, talent, and depth to be a contender each year. So here are four predictions heading into the 2020’s.

1. The Yankees Win Two World Series Titles
Since the Yankees signed star pitcher, Gerrit Cole it put them over the hump in many people’s eyes. Since the signing, many people figure the Yankees are the best team on paper. It’s basically a fresh start and to fans it is a successful offseason. The Yanks got their guy in Cole, a new coaching staff, new training staff, and fresh minds. The Bombers have earned the consideration to be the favorites for the 2020 season. The current squad is a tight bunch and should stick together for years to come. The chemistry is there and there is no reason to doubt the Yankees’ abilities. They are a team built to compete and that is what is expected by the fans every year.

2. Gerrit Cole Wins Two Cy Young Awards
Gerrit Cole’s 2019 season was remarkable and one of the greatest pitching performances we have ever seen in the history of baseball. There is no question that Cole can put up similar numbers like he did in 2019 but maybe not quite as invincible. He has been a top pitcher in baseball over the last couple years and the Yankees are ecstatic to have him on board. All eyes are on Cole because he signed the richest contract for a pitcher in baseball history. When will he win the Cy Young? If I had to guess it would be before his opt out hits in his contract.

3. Luis Severino Wins One Cy Young Award
It is insane to think that the Yankees even have another pitcher in their rotation that has the ability to win a Cy Young award. Well, in 2017, Severino placed third in the American League Cy Young race. Unfortunately, he was plagued with injuries last season but everyone knows that when healthy, Severino is a top arm in the game.
As Severino enters into his prime, elite pitchers like Justin Verlander and Corey Kluber continue to age and exit their primes. The Yankees 1-2 punches in Cole and Severino can be one of the best if they live up to expectations. The starting rotation had been a weakness for the Bombers, but now it seems to be a strength.

4. Gleyber Torres Wins An MVP
At the age of 23, it seems like Gleyber Torres has been playing for years. He has been a huge reason for the Yankees success the last few years and he will only continue to get better. Since Didi Gregorius’ departure, Torres is the short stop for the decade. He has the talent and potential to have seasons where he hits 40 plus home runs, hit over .300, and have an OPS in the mid .900’s. He is such a vital piece for the Yanks that he can be at least a five win player. Torres has shown leadership skills and an ability to adapt. If Torres can be more patient at the plate, then he will be poised for MVP type seasons.
