1. SP Gerrit Cole: seven-years, $265 million
Gerrit Cole is one of the most prized free agents this offseason. After being the runner-up for the Cy Young award, Cole is a big time pitcher the Yankees need for their rotation. The Yankees drafted Cole but he elected going to college. When Cole was on the trade block, the Yankees did make an offer but he got traded to Houston. In 33 games this season, Cole went 20-5, with a 2.50 ERA, 0.895 WHIP and struck out 326 batters.
It was reported by the New York Post that the Yankees traveled to California to have their first meeting with Cole. There are many rumors that Cole wants to stay in California, but this situation is very similar as to when CC Sabathia was a free agent. Personally, I believe Cole will sign with who offers him more but based on sources, the Yankees are pushing hard for Cole and I believe they will have their ace.
