With Dallas Keuchel Atlanta bound, let’s move on and mock three trades that the Yankees could make for a starting pitcher.
The Yankees fought hard to sign former Cy-Young award winner Dallas Keuchel but came up on the short end of the stick.
Thursday, the former Astros ace decided to join the Atlanta Braves as the Bombers missed on baseball’s top remaining free-agent.
With Keuchel off the board, the Yankees will look to the trade market to find another front-line starting pitcher? What could a trade for one look like? Let’s mock three trades that could make sense for the Yankees.
Diamondbacks Get: RHP Micheal King & OF Anthony Garcia
Yankees Get: LHP Robbie Ray
Robbie Ray’s name may not make anyone jump out of their seats but adding the Diamondbacks southpaw would significantly improve the Yankees rotation.
At 27 years old Ray would typically demand a large haul, but he is in his walk year thus, getting Ray shouldn’t be too pricey.
Arizona would likely look for a future rotation arm in which Yankees 12th ranked prospect Micheal King would fit the bill and maybe a young bat which will say is Anthony Garcia. This trade makes sense for both clubs as Arizona is not in the NL West race and could use organizational depth while New York has world series aspirations and a may not need Ray long term but surely in 2019.
Giants Get: RHP Chad Green, RHP Jonathan Loaisiga, RHP Luis Medina
Yankees Get: LHP Madison Bumgarner
Madison Bumgarner isn’t the pitcher he once was but getting a competitor like Mad-Bum for the stretch run would make the Yankees American Leauge favorites.
His price tag is likely as low as ever due to the fact he’s in a walk year, and the Giants are about to enter a rebuild. However, New York would still likely need to offer a top prospect like Jonathan Loaisiga who could help the Giants immediately.
Other players that make sense are Chad Green who would be an immediate impact guy and then prospect Luis Medina who would provide an arm to a Giants farm system that needs all the help they can get.
Nationals Get: RHP Chad Green, OF Estevan Florial, RHP Jonathan Loaisiga, RHP Clarke Schmidt
Yankees Get: RHP Max Scherzer & RHP Javy Guerra
Here’s your blockbuster. Imagine the Yankees landing arguably the best pitcher in baseball and adding him to a rotation that already includes James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka and potentially Luis Severino? Well with the state the Nationals are in it’s possible.
With Scherzer not a free agent after the season it would cost a hefty price tag but would be worth it.
If the Yankees send Green to provide the Nats with bullpen help, their two top prospects in Loasigia and Estevan Florial and former first-rounder Clarke Schmidt they may just be able to get the deal done.
