The first month of Yankees baseball is coming to an end, but the way the season shifted, some of us are still trying to process it.
One month into Yankees baseball and a lot of Yankees fans are scratching their heads. Going into this season, this team had many expectations and had the second-best odds to win the World Series. Here we are, April 25 and the Yankees are in second place in the AL East with a record of 14-10.
MLB changed the DL (disabled list) to the IL (injured list) and the Yankees unfortunately met the IL on numerous occasions to begin this season. So far the Yankees have 15 players on the IL. Though even with a majority of their players hurt, a lot of the young unknown guys have really made an impact for the Yankees these last two weeks.
After Judge’s oblique injury last Saturday, many Yankees fans including myself thought at that moment the season was over. The Yankees did win that game 9-2 and they have been on a nice winning streak. With all these injuries, guys like Clint Frazier, Mike Tauchman, Gio Urshela, and Domingo German have really risen to the occasion. Frazier and Tauchman have come up clutch with big home runs in key series. Urshela has shown everybody he can hit but also his defense is very good as well. In his starts, German is 4-1 with 28 strikeouts and has an ERA of 1.75.
With the resigning of Zack Britton and also signing Adam Ottavino, the Yankees were destined to have the best bullpen in all of baseball. Betances started the season on the IL, Chad Green was sent down recently to Triple-A after really struggling and also had a 15.45 ERA. Only time can tell when this bullpen can get into their real form but the Yankees starters have really stepped up these last couple of games. When this team is dealing with injuries and a streaky bullpen, as long as their starters have quality starts then the Yankees should be okay.
It was stated by Coley Harvey that: “Aaron Boone says today if all checks out with the extended spring training games Miguel Andújar and Troy Tulowitzki get into in the coming days, both could be back in a “week-ish.” Also believes Giancarlo Stanton could get going quickly once he joins the team in Arizona.” Some good news for the Yankees with the next couple of weeks but the motto for MLB this season is “Let the Kids Play” and that’s all we can do right now. Watch these youngsters play and stay positive.
