The Yankees Are Possibly Using An Opener For Monday vs. Tigers

The concept of the opener has taken the game of baseball by storm in the past season and now the Yankees seem to be toying with the idea on Monday.

With the Yankees suffering a countless number of injuries to their starting rotation, it is possible that New York may capitalize on the opener strategy on Monday against the Detroit Tigers.

“It’s possible. We’ll see,’’ Aaron Boone said Saturday regarding the possibility. “We got to see how these days unfold. But Domingo will pitch in some way, shape or form Monday.’’

What Will The Yankees Do When Their Injured Players Return?

The Yankees have one of the strongest bullpens in the sport, so even if they did go with this gameplan, their ‘pen would not feel much damage to it. New York has at least five relievers that could the closer on other teams right now including guys like Jonathan Holder, Domingo German, Luis Cessa and even Tommy Kahnle. This team is practically built for capitalizing on the opener strategy.

It does seem like a strong possibility the Yankees use this strategy due to their current lack of starting pitchers, but we will soon see what the club decides to do.
