Yankees Considered Front Runners To Land Manny Machado

According to A.J. Hermann of YES Network, the Yankees are the preliminary front-runners to land the prized free agent.

Before rolling your eyes at the pre-mature notion of this, I urge you to read the article because they make it very clear that this is a preliminary industry thought. Manny Machado isn’t even officially a free agent yet so this an early prediction.

Basically, the essence of the report was that right now it looks like there are two clear teams that will be willing to spend the money on the price tag that looks to be north of 300 million dollars.

The most interesting part of the article was actually the comments made by Alex Rodriguez. He stated that any teams who judge a few mistakes will miss out and whoever signs Machado will “win big, real big”. He went on to say he’d rather have a passionate player who has made mistakes, as opposed to a player with no passion.

Yankees fans are very opinionated on whether the team should sign Machado. So, instead of making a case for him, I thought I would talk about some reminders when signing a player like this.

  1. You can never have enough good players. People panic so much about what happens to everyone else on the roster. I urge you to remember that these things always seem to work themselves out and it is extremely hard, if not impossible, to have too much talent.
  2. “We need pitching, not Manny Machado”. These two things do not depend on each other. Why can’t we have both? This is the New York Yankees. If they want a big pitcher and position player, they can do it. If they don’t and try and make it about money, then just remember this: they have the money. Don’t be fooled.
  3. If you’re mad that the Yankees may get a superstar then please take a step back and evaluate the situation. If you want Harper instead or believe they shouldn’t get Machado for some reason, that’s fine. But don’t storm Yankee Stadium with torches because the Yankees get Machado. When he hits 35 bombs, I don’t think you’ll be as mad.

Whether or not the Yankees get Machado, it seems they will be willing to spend the money. If that’s the case, it seems to be 100 percent, all in the for Yankees. Expect more than just Machado if that move comes to fruition.
