Report: Yankees In The Mix For Bryce Harper

The Yankees are leaving no stones unturned during this year’s trade deadline and if that means checking in on Bryce Harper, we are all here for it.

UPDATE (10:46 AM ET): According to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, Nationals GM Mike Rizzo has reached out and stated that Bryce Harper would not be traded today. However, the Yankees will still have interest when Harper becomes a free agent at season’s end.

It is that crazy time of year once again, the MLB trade deadline, and the Yankees have already made quite the impact by making more than four deals. However, Brian Cashman doesn’t seem to be done just yet.

According to multiple reports, including Mike Petriello of MLB.com, the Yankees are fully expected to at least check in on Bryce Harper and discuss a potential deal for the superstar outfielder.

As expected, many teams are interested in bringing Harper’s talents to their team as well including the Dodgers, Indians, Phillies, and Astros to name a few. The Yankees do however lead that pack due to them having the ability to make a better trade offer than the rest of those clubs.

To put it simply, the Yankees could 100%  land Bryce Harper if they wanted to, but it will all come down to how much the Yankees truly want to give up and which prospects they are willing to part with. With Aaron Judge out until likely late August/early September, Harper could be a huge upgrade compared to the names they currently have filling in.

Other potential replacements include Curtis Granderson and Cameron Maybin.

It does seem like a long shot at this point, but it is something to keep an eye on. Don’t forget Giancarlo Stanton and Alex Rodriguez seemed like long shots at one point as well.
