The Yankees have made a few moves already this trade season, but they reportedly have Tampa Bay pitcher Chris Archer still on their radar.
According to Marc Carig of The Athletic, the Yankees seem to be making a push for Tampa Bay’s right-handed starting pitcher Chris Archer, who has seemingly never lived up to his full potential.
Archer is currently not having the best year of his career, sporting a 4.31 ERA with 9.56 K/9, significantly lower than his usual strikeout numbers. He has always been considered as a player in Tampa Bay who was a Cy Young caliber arm but hasn’t been able to put it all together as of late.
Despite already acquiring J.A. Happ from the Blue Jays to fortify their starting rotation, it seems as if Brian Cashman is doing his due diligence and going out and inquiring on the pitchers still on the market. The Padres and Dodgers have also shown recent interest in Archer as well.
This would certainly not be the type of move the Yankees should make if it means having to give up numerous top prospects including Clint Frazier or Justus Sheffield. If this were a few years ago and Archer was still on top of his game it would be a different story, but he is not.
