The Yankees Need To Find A Way To Acquire Jacob deGrom

We are beginning the first Subway Series of 2018 and it only makes sense that a trade between the cross-town rival Yankees and Mets needs to happen.

The New York Yankees are scorching hot at the moment, currently holding a record of 40-18 and half a game back of the first place Boston Red Sox. Unless they face an all-time meltdown, they will be looking at postseason baseball this year once again.

With the trade deadline nearing the Bronx Bombers will no doubt look to upgrade the starting rotation and have the farm system and depth at the major league level to get a big name. Why not turn to their little brothers across the pond to do so?

The New York Mets are currently struggling and are seemingly already out of the playoff race which means it could be in their best interest to trade their ace Jacob deGrom, who is having one outstanding 2018 campaign. deGrom is currently 4-0 with an ERA of an outstanding 1.49 and just under 100 strikeouts in 72.1 innings pitched. While the Mets have said they don’t want to trade their ace if they get the right package they will certainly have to consider and the only team that seems to have enough is the Yankees.

Just to be clear it is extremely unlikely that a trade between these two teams for a player as high caliber as deGrom will even be discussed, but that does not mean it wouldn’t make sense for both sides. The Yankees have a lot of prospects they can throw at the Mets that include the likes of Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar, and Clint Frazier.

It is unlikely that the Yankees trade Torres and Andujar but will need to consider due to the fact Degrom is under control until 2020. It is more likely that they offer Frazier and a few prospects maybe on other top tier to the Mets in which it can be very likely a deal between the two sides could get done.

The New York Yankees will need to grab a top tier starter at the deadline if they want to compete for a World Series this year and with a team friendly contract the Yankees should make a call crosstown and throw everything they can at their little brother Mets to snag Jacob deGrom and give them possibly the best one-two punch in all of baseball.
