Yankees Place Tommy Kahnle On 10-Day DL

It’s just been injury after injury for the Yankees so far this season, the most recent victim is relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle who was placed on the 10-day DL on Tuesday.

Injuries are just something that you can do your best to prevent with a ballclub, but no matter what you do they mainly just rely on luck. And so far this season, the Yankees luck with injuries have been slim to none.

The club announced on Tuesday that right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle would be placed on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to Yankees fans considering his major drop in velocity from last season to current day.

Despite telling the media despite the dip in velocity that he was physically fine, it is now clear that there is indeed something going on with his shoulder.

“We’re hoping that this is something that we can knock out with a few days of rest.” Boone told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com on Tuesday.

While it does not seem like it is that severe of an injury at the moment, you never want to take any risks when it comes to pitchers and their throwing arms. Kahnle went for an MRI on Tuesday and is still awaiting the results, but the early tests have reportedly come back with good signs.

Kahnle is set to be a big part of the Yankees bullpen in 2018 and if he is able to regain his velocity back up into the high 90s, he should be fine once he returns from his stint on the disabled list.

Luis Cessa has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton and will be taking Kahnle’s spot on the 25-man active roster. He hasn’t has much success with the Yankees as a starter, but maybe Cessa could (hopefully) become a viable asset out of the bullpen.
