Yankees: Greg Bird Set To Have Surgery On Tuesday

News has arisen that Yankees fans certainly did not want to hear, first baseman Greg Bird is set to have surgery on Tuesday to remove a broken spur in his right ankle.

As per former Yankees manager Joe Girardi, it’s not what you want Yankees fans. Yet another injury has been placed upon Greg Bird and it looks like he will be missing a substantial amount of time.

After being scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to right ankle soreness, it seems that the inflammation was due to a small broken spur on the outside aspect of his right ankle. This is devastating news for the Yankees.

Bird was set to finally have his first full season with the Yankees in 2018 to show off his true talent, but it seems like he may be set up for yet another injury-plagued year.

However, this isn’t devastating news for the Yankees, they have a tremendous amount of depth at first base that could be benefitted by having Tyler Austin take the Opening Day first base job.

Austin has been grossly underrated since coming up to New York in 2016, he has excellent opposite field power made for the Bronx and always seems to come up clutch when they need him the most.

So, while this is upsetting news for Yankees fans this amount of time missed by Bird will not hurt the team too badly, they will be all set until Bird hopefully comes back fully healthy.
